Siri successfully ported over to other iOS devices

But after a few weeks of hard work, developers Steve Troughton-Smith and chpwn have finally managed to crack it. As you can see in the video above, Siri is now fully functional on a device that is not, for a change, an iPhone 4S.

But before you get all excited, this news does come with a catch. The thing is that the developers cannot release this hack to users without Apple’s legal team coming after them. It requires the manipulation of Apple’s code in order to get it working on other devices, which is a violation of the EULA. They may eventually find a way to distribute it legally but till then you will have to use your iOS device the ol’ fashioned way.

This promotion was brought on by the staggering 57.9% jump in growth in shipments compared to last year. Meanwhile, Nokia, Samsung and LG continue to hold on to their No. 1, 2 and 3 spots respectively.

ZTE is not the only one experiencing growth. At 23.0%, Samsung saw the second highest growth compared to 2010 while Apple saw a 21.3% growth. Nokia and LG, however, weren’t so lucky. Nokia’s market share went down by 3.4% whereas LG saw a massive 25.7% drop in popularity.

The entire mobile phone market grew by 12.8%, exceeding IDC’s forecast of 9.3%.

Ads just went up in Verizon stores showing off the yet to be announced HTC Rezound along with other 4G LTE devices on Verizon’s network.

Also, for the first time, we’re seeing the phone with a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre earphones in tow. So all the red highlights on the phone were’t just because it is a Verizon branded device.

Other details about the phone remain scanty. We know it will have a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 resolution S-LCD and it will be running on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. One can also expect to find the latest Sense 3.5 on board. We’ll find out more about it on HTC’s event on Thursday.

HTC shipped 13.2 million devices over the three months, bringing in USD4.54 billion of revenue. Both of those numbers compare favorably to the ones achieved in the same quarter of 2010, representing a growth of 93% and 68% respectively. Naturally, the increase in sales reflected on the net income, which is USD625 million, up 7% over Q2 of 2011 and 68% over Q3 of 2010.

The high sales in Q3 were boosted by the launch of the Beats-branded Sensation XE and Sensation XL, plus the HTC Rhyme, which the company hopes will also help achieve emotional connection between the customers and the HTC brand. And since those were only made available at the end of the quarter we imagine they will have even more of an impact in the HTC performance this holiday season.

Strangely, HTC expect to ship 12-13 million devices in the final quarter of the year, which is less than what they managed to push in Q3, with the revenue also expected to fall slightly. We’ll see how this pans out over the next three months of course, but we are almost certain that the company will be able to beat those targets easily.

As you can see above, the two devices will hit the shelves on November 6. The better equipped Focus S will set you back USD199.99, while the entry-level Focus Flash will cost USD49.99. Both prices will require a two-year commitment with AT&T.

While the price of the Focus S is hardly a surprise, the Samsung Focus Flash looks like a serious bargain for the fifty bucks you will spend on it. It may not have a Super AMOLED screen or an 8MP camera on board, but the rest of its specs are very much in line with what its bigger brother has to offer.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus got some air time at the event. The Samsung reps talked about ICS and the features of the Galaxy Nexus. It will begin its roll-out on November 17 in Europe and then move on to global availability.

The Galaxy Note will start its roll-out from Germany on October 29 with the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and France following in the next few days. By the end of November most of Europe should have already received the Gingerbread-running tablet-slash-phone.

Samsung also announced that there will be a white version of the Galaxy Note, complete with a white S Pen. The company will also be releasing a bunch of nice accessories for the Note, including a cool-looking leather carrying case.

Finally, Samsung mentioned that it will be releasing the S Pen SDK to developers in December so we should be seeing more apps that interact with the S Pen at the start of 2012.

As you can notice in the picture above, the fourth installment of the Droid line is packing a slide-out, illuminated, hardware QWERTY keyboard, packed in a slim, RAZR looking body. According to the author of the pictures, the keyboard is one of the best slide-out QWERTYs out there.

As far as specs go, not much is known at the moment. The phone is reportedly packing a 4″ screen and a non-removable battery. LTE connectivity will be on board, along with the typical for all recent Motorola Droids, HDMI out. The camera is capable of recording full HD videos, but its resolution is yet to be known. Eight megapixels are more than likely. Regarding the CPU of the device, a dual-core unit is all but certain – we just can’t tell you which one is it going to be at the moment.

In the software department, you will find Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. MotoACTV syncing will also be present. Given Motorola’s recent update commitment however, Ice Cream Sandwich is not completely out of question as well.

If you are hoping to see the advanced Super AMOLED screen of the RAZR in the Droid 4, you will most likely be disappointed. You will notice in the shots above, that the unit of the device does not have the same contrast or deep blacks as the typical Super AMOLED unit. It is most certainly an LCD display.

We should be hearing more about the Motorola Droid 4 in the nearest future. As always, we will keep you posted on any developments on the subject.

In terms of specs, you get a 1GHz single-core Qualcomm CPU and 8GB of built-in storage. The screen is a 3.6″ LCD unit with WVGA resolution. A 5MP camera with LED flash can be found on the back of the device. The usual connectivity suite is on board. The Allegro is powered by a 1300 mAh battery. Its measures stand at 116 x 59 x 13mm, and its weight is 126 grams.

The smartphone will hit the shelves in France mid-November in the above shown color schemes. In case you are interested, it will cost you EUR299.

The sales are up 3% YoY and 5% sequentially, but their net profit is down 23% compared to Q2 of 2010 and 2% sequentially.

However, things are much rosier if you focus on the Mobile phone division only. Samsung mobile phones sales rose “low 20%” on QoQ and “high 20%” YoY. The company become the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer selling 27.8 million in the past three months, overtaking Apple, which only managed 17.1 million.

The strong growth, driven by the great performance of the Galaxy S II on the market lead to the Samsung mobile division generating USD13.5 billion of revenue, which is a whopping 39% increase compared to the same period of last year and 23% higher than the result for Q2. Operating profits reached USD2.3 billion, which represents a 51% sequential increase.

Samsung expects to see more of the same in the holiday season with strong demand for their lineup of high-end products in developing markets and mass market smartphones in emerging markets.

According to the company, the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Nexus and the Omnia W are the three premium devices that are expected to perform the best in Q4.

Financially, Motorola Mobility reports the same net revenue of USD3.3 billion as in the previous quarter. It’s 11 percent up from the same quarter last year. The company’s mobile devices division has done well too, reporting total of USD2.4 billion, which is whole 20 percent up year-over-year.

The company has suffered total losses of USD32 million, which is not that bad, compared to the USD52 million reported in loss last quarter. Speaking of losses, the XOOM hasn’t been doing terribly well. Motorola reports that they have shipped only 100,000 of their Android running tablet. And wherever you look at it, it’s not a great achievement.

But mobile phones have been on the rise, with the company reporting over 11.6 million devices shipped in Q3, from which 4.8 million are smartphones. With the announcement of the Motorola RAZR and the upcoming one of the Motorla DROID 4, we are sure the company will keep going up in Q4 as well.
